President's Message

After a great deal of discussion off-line amongst many members and then between about a dozen of us at the last meeting, held at Lazy Lobster last Thursday, we agreed as a board to continue to exist as our own club rather than pursue a merger with another local club.   The primary rational is that we need to let our newly adjusted meeting schedule and format run its course for a while in the hopes that it will allow/motivate more of you (and potential new members) to attend meetings AND very importantly to lend your able hands to support our fund raising events with your time and energy.

Also - we held an election at this meeting - the following applies for 2017-2018 Club Leadership .....   Steve Branham - President; 1st VP/Pres elect - Glenn Peterson; John Wild - Treasurer; Joe Walsh - Club Secretary and Foundation President.   In addition to those names, our Board members are:   Dr. Jim Whitman, James Buchanan, and Bob Gault (we need 3 more).

Our new monthly meeting schedule is:

1st Thursday - Evening cocktail hour at 5PM - next one - Giorgio's (Michael Garey's new place on Hillview) on Oct 5th.

3rd Thursday - Lunch at noon with a speaker - hoping to have those at Portofino at the LBK Marina - next event Oct 19th - confirmation of this venue pends.

Lawn Party - Saturday, Dec 2nd; 12-2 PM; LBK Club Islandside Driving Range

Bob Gault, Asima Palmer and Glenn Peterson are co-chairs.    We need your help to get the word out about sponsor opportunities and ticket sales.    The attached file has specifics and shows the names of those who have already committed to be sponsors.    We need more and your help is key.   PLEASE HELP!!          Tickets will be on sale shortly.     Raffle Tix - $100 each – see attached list for prizes.   Event tix - $50 each or $450 for table of 10.    We are commissioning a few local clubs to help sell tix to a broader area.   This is going to be a GREAT event please support it!!

Finally, please read and act on John Wild’s latest membership email.    Bottom line – we need your commitment (and funds) to be a member by October 5th to correspond with Kiwanis International’s membership timeline and for us to pay them the appropriate fee for your membership.    We have adjusted our dues to one single type - $200 for annual membership and pay-as-you-go at our meetings (one happy hour and one lunch per month).  We really need all of you to be members, but If you do not plan to be a member this coming year, please let us know so that we can adjust our records and emailing list.

Thanks .... more later ....

Steve
